The role of Trainee Accountant will provide administrative and technical support functions within the Bank’s finance department; generating key management information reports including financial Key Performance/Risk Indicators. You will undertake ad hoc analysis of the Bank’s performance and balance sheet and, post accounting entries and undertake balance sheet and cash reconciliations.

You will need to ensure the accurate and timely production of financial and management information to the Leadership Team to support the achievement of the business plan and strategic objectives. Ensuring the finance systems are professionally managed and maintained in an accurate and timely manner at all times and ensure year end statutory accounts and regulatory information is delivered accurately, working to set deadlines.

Essential Experience

  • Mathematics (grade A-C) at GCSE level or equivalent
  • A Levels/BTEC or equivalent

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Responsible for assisting the Management Accounting Manager to ensure that all tasks are completed in a a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure all reconciliations are prepared, reviewed and actions within agreed timescales for The Carlyle Trust Limited and its subsidiaries, including Julian Hodge Bank Limited. Ensure a record of all month end reconciliations are completed and ready for review by management including uploading to Jira for approval.
  • Assist in the preparation of all management reports.
  • Assist in ensuring that all operational reconciliations are maintained and reviewed at least monthly with an explanation for all reconciling items.
  • Assist with Treasury back-office processing ensuring both controls and segregation of duties are maintained.
  • Assist with the production and review the financial information supplied to third parties under the Bank’s third-party servicing arrangements.
  • Complete and process supplier payment runs, expenses payments and commission payments run within agreed timescales. Including supplier record updates under the approved change process.
  • Establish, maintain, and review operating policies and job cards (systems of internal control) to ensure that they are sufficiently robust to adequately safeguard the Group’s assets and where weaknesses are identifying ensure remedial action is taken in a timely manner.
  • Understand the output of the department, putting in place controls and reconciliations to ensure accounting discrepancies are identified and take ownership of issues through to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • Support the risk culture of the organisation by taking personal responsibility for identifying and managing risks in everything you do.
  • Support with relevant project work when required ensuring tasks are followed through to an acceptable finish.
  • Ensure company policies and procedures are always adhered to.
  • Undertake any other reasonable tasks as and when requested by the Management Accounting Manager or Group Financial Controller.
