Under the overall management of the Software and Architecture Lead or Lead Software Engineer, lead the software development activity on a single delivery team and ensure it aligns with the architectural vision for Hodge. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to drive continual improvement of software delivery and development practices.

Essential Experience:

  • Previous experience in commercial software development environment
  • Experience developing web services in a service-based architecture using Java (v8+)
  • Knowledge and experience using relational databases, Hibernate and Spring or similar frameworks.
  • Knowledge of best practice and supporting tools throughout the Software Development lifecycle.
  • Experience of leading a software development team

Responsibilities:

  • Work with software and delivery teams to define and implement architectural vision for single
  • Undertake detailed design work for individual services in line with architectural vision
  • Understand and maintain all relevant architectural documentation on project work
  • Ensure architectural work includes appropriate quality controls mechanisms (e.g. reliability patterns and health-checks).
  • Understand core architectural patterns and frameworks used by
  • Engage with external suppliers to ensure system interfaces align with agreed principles and understand key business processes that software supports

Development:

  • Lead software development activity on single delivery
  • Manage development and test resources on single delivery
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of relevant languages and work with delivery teams to ensure NFRs are defined, agreed and work with delivery teams to ensure a standardised approach to development work to enhance existing and creation of new software systems and ensure appropriate quality measures (e.g. unit test coverage) are adhered to and Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained to support current and future development

Continuous Improvement:

  • Line Management responsibility for Software Engineers and Graduate Software
  • Pro-actively improve team performance through formalised knowledge
  • Advise and coach other team members to aid their technical and team
  • Pro-actively investigate technology landscape and best practise to identify
  • Work with scrum masters to implement and refine Agile
