The role of Software Engineer is to resolve live issues as part of the BAU team and develop new features through software development activity, contributing to the technical landscape of Hodge. Engaging with the wider IT and Change Teams to contribute to continual improvement of software delivery and development practices.

 

Essential Experience:

  • Previous experience in commercial software development environment
  • Experience developing using Java (v8+)
  • Knowledge and experience using relational databases, Hibernate and Spring or similar frameworks     
  • Knowledge of supporting tools throughout the Software Development lifecycle

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Understand core architectural patterns and frameworks used by Hodge.
  • Understand and maintain all relevant documentation on project work undertaken.
  • Engage with external suppliers to ensure system interfaces align with agreed principles and standards.
  • Understand key business processes that software supports.
  • Understand the wider economic environment in which Hodge operates.
  • Development work to resolve live issues from Hodge application.
  • Development work to enhance existing and creation of new software systems and services.
  • Ensure appropriate quality measures (e.g. unit test coverage) are adhered to and improved.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is maintained to support current and future development activity.
  • Work with Test team to ensure agreed testing requirements are implemented.
  • Review work and code of other team members.
  • Investigate and develop data fixes to support BAU activity
  • Development work to resolve issues and enhance existing software systems and services
  • Apply key software quality controls to development work undertaken
  • Maintain a knowledge of current technologies and best practise to identify improvements.
  • Engage with external parties and tech community to share and improve knowledge.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies to improve change and development practices.
  • Understand and follow key Software Development practices and processes.
