Do you want to be part of a force for good, helping to make life better for customers and society in the moments that matter? At Hodge, we put people at the heart of our business, and that means our customers, colleagues and communities. Hodge is a Welsh financial services provider focused on real estate finance and specialist residential mortgage markets.
The Technical/Delivery‑Focused Agile Coach is responsible for uplifting engineering excellence, delivery discipline, and flow efficiency across squads. This role enables “safe speed” by strengthening technical practices, reducing delivery friction, and embedding engineering behaviours that support high‑quality, reliable, and compliant software delivery.
The role will be responsible for coaching and guiding teams in lean flow, engineering practice improvement, CI/CD maturity, agile discipline, and reducing systemic delivery constraints.
Essential Experience:
- Deep knowledge of Agile engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, quality gates, and flow optimisation
- Understanding of quality, auditability, risk, and control expectations when coaching delivery teams in regulated environments
- Experience coaching multiple technology squads in modern software engineering methods
- Strong experience in Lean flow measurement, dependency management, backlog maturity, and predictable sprinting
- Skilled in technical coaching, mentoring engineers, and influencing across cross‑functional teams
- Accomplished level of Risk management
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Optimise end‑to‑end flow by reducing WIP, shortening queues, and addressing systemic dependencies—consistent with Agile coaching practices that focus on identifying bottlenecks and improving cycle/lead times.
- Guide teams in kanban‑style flow management and throughput improvement, to ensure process optimisation and workflow improvements.
- Strengthen backlog quality, sprint hygiene, and predictability through improved refinement, planning accuracy, and execution discipline.
- Promote consistent application of Agile metrics and transparent reporting across squads.
- Coach teams on CI/CD hygiene, build stability, deployment consistency, and automated testing strategies.
- Support adoption of better development workflows, observability, and DevOps‑aligned practices similar to those emphasised in coaching roles in regulated, technology‑heavy environments.
- Enhance clarity and robustness of Definition of Done, incorporating automated tests, traceability, security and quality gates—reflecting industry guidance for improving team discipline and product quality.
- Partner with Product Owners and Tech Leads to ensure acceptance criteria drive quality‑built‑in rather than inspection‑based quality.
- Introduce earlier testing, validation, and feedback loops to reduce rework, accelerate value delivery, and minimise risk.
- Promote pairing, peer review, automated checks, and progressive delivery techniques such as feature toggles and trunk‑based development.
- Provide coaching on technical leadership, sustainable delivery pace, and capacity management—consistent with Agile coaching principles of fostering healthy team behaviours and resilience.
- Support Tech Leads in scaling good engineering practices across squads.
