What is Hodge’s purpose?
The words above epitomise Hodge in a nutshell. They’re etched on our walls at Hodge HQ. And it may sound cliché, but they remind us that every day at Hodge is a chance to help someone in a moment that matters to them.
We’ve been around since the 1960’s and being 79% owned by a charity means our purpose has been to support our customers and colleagues since day one.
How has that purpose evolved?
Back in 2023, we received a few requests from our colleagues to help support causes close to their hearts. This inspired us to think about how we can further help our local community, and in turn, support our customers.
The Purpose Pot was born! Since we launched The Purpose Pot to colleagues (the title is little on the nose, but we love it), we’ve had an abundance of requests for Hodge to support causes close to their heart.
Who have we supported?
We’ve supported, on average, five causes every month. These range from supporting semi-professional teams such as Cardiff City and Barry Town United Women’s football teams to local sports teams like St Peters RFC, Radyr Rangers, AFC Rumney and Porth Harlequins. We’ve also contributed towards Team Wales at the Dance World Cup 2024, Spartans Kickboxing team and touch rugby teams.
We want to share the love far and wide, to causes that means a lot to our colleagues, customers and communities. We recently sponsored a colleague who walked the coast of Wales for Velindre in support of their close friend and former colleague with a rare form of lung cancer. Friends of Animals Wales is another example of a cause we’re proud to support. They do incredible volunteer work re-homing animals across Wales and the UK. One of our colleagues has actually adopted a sausage dog (Daisy) from them, so expect plenty of Daisy content!
There are challenges from time to time which affect us all. We’re all human and susceptible to things such as disease and illness. We’re trying our best to help current colleagues, past colleagues, friends, family and anyone in need. We’ve supported the MS Society, MND association and Fighting Ependymoma.
Pride Cymru 2024
Thanks to the Purpose Pot, Hodge were also parade sponsor of Pride Cymru 2024 in Cardiff! Last year we introduced our Inclusion Network and made some significant strides and keep evolving. Seeing the people of Wales and beyond come together and march through the streets of Cardiff was a privilege to be a part of.
