This is a key senior role within Hodge leading the software development team and is central to the growth of the company. Its purpose is to provide leadership and management to support the team with some hands on technical leadership to ensure that product development is undertaken using the right principles, standards and outcomes.  The role will be key stakeholder in the Build the Bank digital transformation programme which is a major pillar in the delivery of the overall Hodge strategy.

The role will report into the Head of Engineering and will lead the Software development teams.

Key responsibilities will include:

You will managing a highly talented in house Hodge team and external development teams, who are working on complex Agile projects, using Scrum and Kanban principles.

  • Lead a team of in-house and external engineers
  • Empower, challenge, and coach team members to grow their impact as individual technical contributors by providing them with context and continuous feedback.
  • Drive ownership and coordinate daily activities, including feature delivery, operational excellence, bug triage and knowledge base content updates.
  • Manage the engineering challenges and risks associated with delivering on a regular, rapid cadence anticipating and recognising bottlenecks in work.
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure we have the capability to deliver our roadmap of development, focusing on quality and outcomes.
  • Define the strategy for future development in collaboration with strategic partners, evolving capability and introducing new capability to support the needs of the business.
  • Use your technical skills to advise and consult on digital solutions, leading to the development, implementation, and improvement of technical services.
  • Work with product owners, senior business stakeholders and scrum masters to create dynamic applications and digital services across Hodge platforms both internal and customer facing.
  • Work with external partners and agencies to assist with projects that may require integration with internal systems or data feeds to be provided or received.
  • Deputise for Head of Engineering Lead when required and contribute to CIO Leadership team activities

What we need from you:

In order to support and lead highly technical teams, the role will require a very strong technical background with the ability to influence and understand software development at every stage to provide the right level of guidance and to talk the same language as the development team. It’s highly desirable for the right applicant to be conversant in modern frameworks, tools, methodologies and best practices and has an established track record.  The tech stack consists of Java(17), ReactJS, ReactNative, Typescript, NodeJS framework, python, Github and Terraform.

  • Experience in Scrum, Agile, Kanban and Waterfall methodologies is mandatory
  • Experience within a leadership role and commercial software development environment
  • Experience developing web services in a service-based architecture using Java (v8+)
  • Knowledge and experience using relational databases, Hibernate and Spring or similar frameworks.
  • Knowledge of best practice and supporting tools throughout the Software Development lifecycle.
  • Experience of leading developers across software teams
