Our commitment to accessibility

At Hodge, we are committed to ensuring our digital services are accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability or technology. We believe everyone should be able to manage their money confidently and independently, and we are continually working to improve the accessibility and usability of our digital channels.

This accessibility statement applies to:

The Hodge website: www.hodgebank.co.uk

The Hodge digital savings platform, which is accessed via our website here: https://mysavings.hodgebank.co.uk/Login

We aim to design and maintain our services, so they are perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust, in line with recognised accessibility standards.

Accessibility standards

Website accessibility

The Hodge website aims to conform to W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. Further information about W3C standards can be viewed here.

Following internal accessibility reviews, we are aware that some parts of the website do not fully meet these standards at present.

Known accessibility issues on the website include:

  • Some instances of low colour contrast, particularly where branded yellow graphics are used on light backgrounds
  • Additional examples of low contrast on buttons, although button text itself provides high contrast
  • Some issues with non-sequential or incorrect heading hierarchy
  • Link labelling and ARIA labelling issues that may affect screen reader users
  • The use of some PDF documents that are not fully accessible

Digital savings platform accessibility

The Hodge digital savings platform does not currently conform to WCAG 2.2 standards. However, accessibility considerations have been made during its design and development, and we recognise that further improvements are required.

Known accessibility issues on the digital savings platform include:

  • Some font sizes below recommended minimums
  • Instances of low contrast, including:
  • Branded yellow graphics on light backgrounds
  • Light grey text on light backgrounds
  • Text displayed over images
  • Missing alternative text (alt tags) on some images
  • Browser back button behaviour does not work as expected, potentially triggering a logout
  • Form controls not grouped, which may affect screen reader navigation
  • Table accessibility standards not implemented
  • Tab index usage that may impede consistent journeys for keyboard and non-keyboard users
  • Hyperlink colour and font styling not sufficiently distinct from surrounding text
  • Error messages and other informative text not visually distinct from surrounding content
  • ‘Skip to main content’ functionality not implemented
  • Missing labels for elements used by assistive technologies
  • Missing defined landmarks with appropriate labels
  • Missing or incorrect headings and page structure
  • Links that are not descriptive or easily identifiable
  • Mandatory fields not identifiable via assistive technologies
  • PDF documents that are not accessible via keyboard or assistive technologies
  • Documents with form controls not presented in a logical reading order

What we are doing to improve accessibility

The issues outlined above have been identified through accessibility reviews and testing. These issues will be assessed and prioritised and added to our upcoming works schedule to ensure improvements are delivered in a structured and meaningful way.

Accessibility is an ongoing focus for us, and we are committed to embedding accessibility considerations into future design, development, and content creation activities.
