Under the management of the Chief Risk Officer, the role holder will lead on IT & Change risk management, supporting and challenging the business and senior management.

They will oversee the design, delivery, and improvement of IT & Change risk assurance, aiding the development of policies, procedures, and risk appetites by offering constructive input. The role holder will provide expert guidance to the first line business and contribute to governance committees up to Board level, ensuring risks are managed with appropriate actions, contingency plans, and controls.

Essential Experience:

  • Relevant IT & Change experience, at management level in a risk-based role

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Own, deliver and enhance a clear IT & Change oversight framework linking risk appetite, risk assessments, policies and procedures and ensuring they are integral to decision making.
  • Delivery and continual improvement of the IT & Change focus areas of the risk assurance plan based on a risk-based assessment of key areas of focus and in conjunction with the wider risk team.
  • Support and question the business in the development of IT & Change risk management policies to address the firm’s material IT & Change risks, including the acceptance, management and monitoring of those risks and the methods and processes for assessing them.
  • Design and execute robust risk oversight and challenge to the functions responsible for managing IT & Change risks, making recommendations for improvements in the control environment where necessary.
  • Develop the documentation and challenge of IT & Change risk appetite, including quantitative and qualitative measures, of the Bank for review and challenge by the Risk and Conduct Committee and approval by the Board. Driving the maturity forward to identify new approaches.
  • Design and embed appropriate reporting to enable monitoring of compliance with IT & Change risk management policies and the firm’s risk appetite.
  • Provision and presentation of insightful reports on status of IT & Change risk across the business.
  • Lead second line representation at committees on IT & Change risk matters and deputise for the Chief Risk Officer when required.
  • Conduct thematic reviews and lessons learned reviews into selected areas of IT & Change risk and escalate any recommendations or findings as appropriate.
  • Support the business in the escalation process when any breaches, losses and near-misses occur, including any measures taken or proposed to address them are effective.
  • Interpret and summarise new regulatory/industry/emerging risk developments relevant to the role, understand the potential impacts and risks these may pose and communicate to the Chief Risk Officer.
  • Managing the relationships of any external support required to supplement the capacity and capability of the team on IT & Change risk matters.
  • Ensure all managers are aware of their responsibilities in respect of risk policies and procedures, delivering training as appropriate, and promote a positive attitude to risk management awareness and activity.
  • Reporting results of reviews and other risk management actions concisely to senior management and the Risk and Conduct Committee.

General

  • Maintain awareness and profile of risk management developments and contribute to relevant proposals to the Risk and Conduct Committee to improve or enhance the Group’s risk management framework to best practice.
  • Promote good governance practices across the Group in line with published standards and guidance.
  • Attendance and presentation to executive and board level committees when required.
  • Identifying and promoting financial process improvements and standardisation projects across the Group.
  • Support the team in following up outstanding remediation actions to closure within agree deadlines.
  • Ensure that all systems-based records are maintained in an accurate and timely manner.
