At Hodge, we’re proud to back businesses that make a difference in your communities. That’s why we’re excited to support Brew Proco Ltd, with a commercial investment loan to help them buy a portfolio of 83 long leasehold pubs across South and West Wales.
Our Real Estate Finance arm recently provided the investment facility of this large-scale portfolio, including many well established and long- standing favourite public houses, previously owned and operated by iconic Welsh brewery, Brains, and now leased to Marston’s on a 25-year term.
Marston’s is one the UK’s largest pub operators and has recently sharpened its focus on running pubs, following its sale of the of its share in Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company in 2024.
For us, this funding is about more than just property. It’s about supporting places that bring people and communities together – high-street pubs are both social and economic hubs that help towns and cities thrive. According to the British Beer and Pub Association, pubs contribute more than £26 billion to the UK economy every year, and they’ve been seeing a real bounce back since the pandemic. We’re glad to play a part in that.
Gareth Davies, Senior Business Development Manager, Real Estate Finance at Hodge, said:
“It’s been a pleasure working with Westbrooke Private Capital and we’re proud to have backed a real estate transaction of this scale in Wales, our home and our heartland.
Supporting the acquisition of 83 long leasehold pubs shows not only our commitment to the leisure and hospitality sector, but our ongoing support for businesses in Wales.
Pubs remain a vital part of the social fabric, and we’re excited to be part of a deal that continues to bring communities together.”
James Lightbody, Head of Real Estate at Westbrooke Private Capital, added:
“We’re delighted to complete this transaction with the support of our lending partner, Hodge.
We’ve been involved with this portfolio since its original disposal by Brains in 2021 and this deal allows us to continue to support the sector and those pubs which are cornerstones of their communities in Wales.”
