What’s Hodge doing to #BreakTheBias this International Women’s Day?

Tuesday 8th March is International Women’s Day, a day to not only celebrate the achievements of women but also to shine a light on what needs to change in order to create a gender equal world.

This year’s  theme is #BreakTheBias, which encourages us all to understand what we can do to recognise bias and what we can do eliminate it. The aim is to create a world in which difference is valued and celebrated, free of lazy stereotypes and discrimination.

What is Hodge doing to create a gender equal world?

With #BreakTheBias as this year’s theme, we acknowledge action has to start with intention so with this in mind, the IWD Community is encouraging people – particularly those in influential roles in the workplace – to make pledges about steps they will take to break the bias. At Hodge we started by speaking to the executive committee to ask what pledges they’d be making for the year ahead.

Hodge CEO, Dave Landen explained how initiatives like this are more than just a tick box exercise at Hodge and are a core part of the business ethos, he said: “I truly want Hodge to be free of bias and a place where we are all treated fairly. Everyone should feel able to bring their true selves to work.

“This something we are all responsible for. It’s only all together can we achieve equality.”

Dave’s pledge is to: “Ensure Hodge is a workplace where we truly value different backgrounds and listen to all voices.”

Here’s how everyone can get involved

If you want to get involved then why don’t you make and share your own pledge? Hodge colleagues will be doing the same, along with thousands of others out there using the #BreakTheBias tag. We know in a workplace like Hodge, every single colleague can be influential, so every contribution to an equal and inclusive workplace can help us push the dial even closer to enact the change we want to see.

Every year, International Women’s Day is a day full of opportunities to see more, learn more and do more. If you’re looking for something to engage with, why not try some of these options?

  • Business in the Community – ‘Who Cares’ launch event: Business in the Community is using IWD2022 to launch its ‘Who Cares’ campaign, designed to break down biases and established inequalities around the way caring responsibilities are distributed. As a Business in the Community member, Hodge is pleased to see the issue of caring responsibilities being given the attention it desperately needs.

If you’d like to see more from Hodge or share anything with us, please reach out and add to the conversation this International Women’s Day and beyond.
